A beautifully preserved château.Listed as a Historic Monument since 1938, the Château de Châteaudun is a rare model of medieval, Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Elevated on a solid limestone foundation, it retains a circular extremely well preserved twelfth century tower (the work of Thibaud the Cheat). The Sainte-Chapelle contains a fine collection of fifteen statues from the Loire workshops. Other fine features are a beautiful Renaissance staircase and a terrace overlooking the valley. The vaulted kitchens present part of the permanent exhibition on Medieval gastronomy. Thanks to state of the art technology in the fields of sound, image and staging, visitors are transported to the culinary world behind the medieval feasts and can learn all about the products of the time during the summer events organised at the château.
